Neukölln in Transition

Urban Transformation and New Forms of Reuse

The tour follows Neukölln as it continues to change through the reuse of former industrial and infrastructural sites. Starting in the Schillerkiez neighbourhood, the route moves along Hermannstraße, where new buildings on a partially deconsecrated cemetery site reflect shifting approaches to housing and urban development. Further south, the former Kindl brewery site shows how large industrial structures are being gradually opened up for cultural, social and ecological uses.

One of the key sites is the Vollgut area, a large-scale transformation project currently redefining a former industrial complex. Here, former production spaces are being adapted for creative work, housing and circular construction initiatives. Within this context, the CRCLR House focuses on sustainable building practices using recycled and ecological materials.

Across the route, different projects take distinct approaches to reuse and redevelopment. Together, they show how new urban uses emerge within the fabric of the existing city.
