Postwar Modernism in Berlin: From Temporary Bauhaus Archive to the Museum of Photography

Modernism has many faces: it ranges from far-reaching concepts like the car-friendly city to finely sculpted, curved office buildings and university structures that symbolize a new beginning for society. In Charlottenburg, these ideas come together to form a multifaceted picture of postwar modernism, including the TU campus, the City West, and several cultural institutions. Our guided tour takes you through postwar Berlin, from Ernst-Reuter-Platz to the Gedächtniskirche. The starting point is the Temporary Bauhaus Archive, a bold 1950s design by Paul Schwebes. From there, the walk leads past the concert hall of the University of the Arts to the Museum of Photography: Here, as part of a special exhibition, the Bauhaus Archive presents works by female Bauhaus artists, which are contextualized in relation to current artistic positions.
