Richard Ollig

Richard studied restoration in Italy and works as an architect specializing in the preservation of historic buildings. From time to time, his work takes him to fascinating excavation sites such as the Tunisian desert or the pyramids of Meroë in Sudan, where he is involved in their uncovering and exploration. It’s no surprise that his passion lies in places of transformation and decay. Revealing and preserving the traces of time, describing the patina of objects and the histories they embody—this is exactly his field of expertise. He feels most at home on Museum Island, where he was already working as a stone restorer in the 1990s and is now once again involved in the restoration planning for the Pergamon Museum. He lives near the “golden triangle” of Kreuzberg, Treptow, and Neukölln, where he sometimes feels as if he’s on holiday. And when he does feel the need to get away, he seeks out water, music—or both at once.
