Museum Island – 200 year Jubilee

Museum Island is one of Berlin’s main attractions and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site for 25 years. The foundation stone for Karl Friedrich Schinkel’s Altes Museum was laid on July 9, 1825 – 200 years ago now. On our guided tour, you will have the opportunity to get to know the buildings of the State Museums anew. Using historical photos and plans, you will learn more about the history of the Museum Island, its structural development and the cultural and historical significance of the buildings. We will draw your attention to unusual details of the buildings and illustrate the key ideas of their builders. One focus of the tour is the James-Simon-Galerie, inaugurated in 2019, and a visit to the Neues Museum – an award-winning renovation project based on the concept of “complementary restoration”.
