Humboldt Forum and Museum Island
Reconstructions and Additions
The redevelopment of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site Museum Island according to the master plan by David Chipperfield is the largest inner city project in Berlin since the opening of Potsdamer Platz.
The reopening of the New Museum and the construction of a new central entrance building, the James Simon Gallery, complete the war-damaged ensemble and point the way to a modern museum landscape in the 21st century.
Franco Stella‘s new building opposite the Altes Museum boasts reconstructed facades of the baroque Berlin City Palace on three outer sides and in its inner courtyards. The fourth side facing the river Spree was designed in a contemporary style. The controversial building will be illuminated in the context of this guided tour.
