Media Spree – sink it?

The urban development area between Ostbahnhof and Oberbaumbrücke is distinguished by its unique location along the Spree and its proximity to the East Side Gallery, the longest surviving section of the Berlin Wall. Larger than the new Potsdamer Platz and developed several years later, the neighborhood is now complete. It offers a vibrant mix of office, commercial, and residential buildings, even though its commercial focus is often viewed critically. The neighborhood impressively demonstrates how differently urban spaces can be developed, depending on the respective stakeholders and the timeframe of implementation. Notable highlights include the conversion of the former Centrum department store into UP!Berlin, the new headquarters of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, and the revitalization of the old Postbahnhof – all located directly adjacent to Ostbahnhof and serving as examples of successful urban development.
