Sidesteps: Leipzig

A mere hour from Berlin by train lies the capital of Saxony, which scores points with its historic city centre and vibrant student life and can be easily explored on foot. Since the opening of the MdbK, colloquially known as the picture museum, by Hufnagel Pütz Raffaelian, word has gotten around that highly interesting architecture can be visited in Leipzig. But with other new buildings such as the underground S-Bahn stations, the conversion of Europe’s largest terminus station (in terms of area) into a promenade mall, the controversial reconstruction of the University Church and the new construction of St.Trinitatis provost church by Schulz & Schulz, the historic city centre has reinvented itself.
