Academy of Arts at Pariser Platz

The glass building is not only the only one designed by Günter Behnisch in the capital city, it is a real exception. In the stone-clad surroundings of Pariser Platz, which is characterised by a strict design statute, the building which becomes transparent in the evening, seems like a counter-model to the disciplined Prussian facades of its neighbours. Inside, the publicly accessible glass structure turns out to be a passageway and protective shell which was laid over the only remaining old building left at this famous location after the Second World War. The skylight halls of the former exhibition building dating from 1908 as well as the large plenary hall and finally the roof terrace with its spectacular view of the Brandenburg Gate are among the highlights of this architectural tour.
